American Cryptids, Deer Woman

The Deer Woman🦌

The Deer Women is a cryptid from North American Indian legends, she can be considered a type of spirit or Forest nymph, she is attractive and alluring but also quite deadly. Often seen as very attractive young woman  though she can appear in different forms, ranging from a young beautiful woman to a deer or even a combination with a  human female upper body and the lower body of a white-tailed deer.

While sometimes associated with love and fertility, she is usually feared as a dangerous figure who punishes men, especially those who are promiscuous or harmful to women, she hates cheaters and abusive parents.

She is most often encountered on trail's where she will be in the brush or behind the trees calling out to travelers, leading them into the forest .

She also loves to dance, and will sometimes sneak into  a communal dance unnoticed, only leaving when the drum beating stop.

Her appearance is that of a very attractive young woman, the only noticable difference is that she has hooves instead of human feet and eyes similar to a deer.

Men that fall for her charms may escape if they notice her deer hooves and run before she can stomp them to death, though most notice to late and fail to escape.

In some version of this legend, sighting her is infact a sign of personal transformation or possibly a warning of things to come, not necessarily a bad thing but not quite good either. .

According to Ojibwe tradition, she can be banished through the use of tobacco and chanting.

You can also break her spell by looking at her feet, and realizing that they are hooves. Once they are recognized for what they are, the Deer Women will run away.

Some believe the Deer Women to be an allegory about getting to know and understand someone you're attempting to get sexually intimate with and valuing them for who they are not who you want them to be. .

Aside from Folklore and legends, she has appeared in several movies, tv show and literary work.

Yokai,The Ippondatara

The Ippondatara is a famous one legged Yokai that haunts the mountains of Japan.

In some villages, its  considered to be a cousin  to the kappa called gōrai who leave their river homes in in winter then transform from river yokai into mountain spirits called kashambo until they return to the rivers in spring.

This one legged Yokai tends to keep to itself and is relatively harmless with the exception of December 20th, once per year on this day it turns very violent and will kill any human it encounters.

. Those entering the mountains on December 20th and are unlucky enough to run into the ippondatara are immediately attacked and squashed squashed by  its powerful foot. Because of this, December 20th is considered an unlucky day in the areas where this yōkai lives and people (at least the  ones) stay out of the mountains on that day.

It's name comes from the man powered bellows that a blacksmith would use before the industrialization of the smithies shops  because this yōkai resembles a master blacksmith who lost the use of one eye from years of starting at the bright flames, and has one large leg from years of heavy work pumping the bellows.

It seems to prefer the mountains near Wakayama and Nara Prefectures (old Kii and Yamato Provinces), though it has also been sighted have other neighboring prefectures .

Some believe it's possibly the ghost of a famous one-legged, one-eyed robber named Hitotsudatara who lived in the mountains of Wakayama and had supernatural strength.

Others think it may be a former mountain kami (God/powerful nature Spirit) that became  corrupted over time and transformed into a yōkai. The  one eyed appearance is a well known feature on  mountain spirits, and other one-eyed yōkai like the hitotsume kozō that was originally a mountain kami.

The Mavka 🌳🌲 ☠️

The Mavki is a Russian/ Slavic forest  creatures that haunts the caves  and forest of the countryside most popular in Ukraine.

The Mavki (singular: mavka) are typically forest spirits though  in some versions she is a type of rusalka

According to the myth any girl who drown themselves because of an unhappy love life become rusalka similarly any young women that dies a tragic or premature death may become a mavka.

Mavkas  live in the forests, mountains, or caves, they are young attractive often naked female spirits described as  tall with round faces and long hair .

They decorating their homes with rugs and weav thin, almost transparent clothes from stolen flax. They are also known for their love of flowers, which they wear in their hair and plant in the mountains to lure young men in.

Is  some beliefs, a man could also become a rusalka: in the Sosnytsia Raion of the Chernihiv Oblast it's believed that men and women can become one of these spirits if they died on Trinity week.

According to myth, they are similar to if not a variant of rusalki or mavki

Both are depicted as beautiful young women with green moss or reed colored hair, though a more malevolent version of the Mavka is  sometimes said to have  no back or a  transparent back through which all of their internal organs were visible (those were more often called nyavka).

Like rusalka that lure men into a watery death, the Mavka will lure men into the woods, where she tickles him to death or tangles him in her long hair and drown him

On Pentecost (Navka's Easter), Mavkas are said to hold celebration, dances, and orgies, accompanied by a demon playing a flute or pipes. To save an unbaptized baby's soul, one must throw up a kerchief during Pentecost, say their name, and add "I baptise you

....

It may be safer to just stay out of the woods and away from creeks and rivers all together lol

Jeff Boiler's Terrifying Bigfoot Encounter

                                              Jeff Boiler's Terrifying Bigfoot Encounter

Jeff Boiler is a former marine and later police officer in Oregon, he appeared on the scify channels "paranormal witness'"to recount his terrifying encounter..

Jeff boils bigfoot

America is a fast landscape of scenic mountains and lush forests especially our national parks.

But that beauty may be hiding a far more insidious secret.

If you are a fan of mysteries and strange disappearances then you have likely heard of the Missing 411 book series
and the many odd and possibly paranormal disappearance's

But there are also hundreds of sightings involving cryptids ranging from bigfoot, werewolf/dogman, reptilians,
feral humans and even vampires.

Todays post is a terrifying bigfoot encounter in the pacific north west, Involving a former Marin turned deputy named Jeff Boiler.
...................................

Jeff moved to Oregon in 1997, he had  always loved nature and just decided to find a nice place away from it all.

One of his friends was the sheriff of a small town in northwest Oregon and offered him a job as a new deputy sheriff, which Jeff excepted.

A few months in,  and he was really enjoying his new life surrounded by nature.

Then one day work was slow and he got off early, so he decided to take a trip into the mountains, Jeff had a fiend that had passed away some
20 years prior and he planed on visiting the site to pay his respect.

The place he planned on visiting was an extremely remote area of the cascade mountains.

He started his trip early and took a map and compass with him, as  his planned hike was unmarked and
far off the beaten path.

After around two hours of trekking through thick undergrowth and heavy terrain he decided to take a short break.

Before his break he had found a creek and took a moment to refill his water bottle and check his map once more, but as he was looking upward and checking his compass he noticed  something looking back at him from the  edge of a slight cliff just ahead of him partially concealed by a tree and the rocky terrain.

In a moment of disbelief and confusion Jeff tilts his head to the side in a curious manner, and to his shock the  creature mimics is action and tilts its head too.

Then what Jeff describe as a large hairy creature about 8 feet tall and on two legs steps out from be hide the tree.

Now startled Jeff, pulls his side-arm(Gun) and the thing run's off at an incredible speed.

Jeff then climbs up the the location he had seen this thing in search of track's or hair samples, but finding nothing significant decides to start walking off in the same direction it had fled in hopes of seeing it again to try and better understand what he had witnessed.

Jeff had been walking for an hour or so in the same direction, and hadn't seen anything odd when all of the sudden he hears a loud crack followed by what sounded like a falling tree off to his right.

Now sure that it had doubled back and was now following him, be starts to worry as the bigfoot can see him,but he can not see it.

This is the perfect opportunity for an ambush!

Not a good situation to be in!

As he starts back tracking his path back out of the forest he hears another loud crash and knows this thing is following him.

Jeff now fills that he is being hunted and begins to run, as he's running he enters a clearing, and notices a deer just standing there staring at him, then it looks behind him and runs away as fast as it can in the opposite direction.

He slowly turns to look behind him but is still unable to see where this thing is but realizes it could grab him at any moment and he need's to go Now.

He makes a frantic dash back to  where his truck is and the crash's and breaking tree limbs are getting loader and closer by the moment.

His only thought is just get to the truck, he wants some steel between him and this thing, but once he's within a  hundred yards of his truck everything just stops, he thinks to himself this is it, its right up on me and is about to attack.

But nothing. he finally gets to his truck slams the door  and leaves.

Once back in town he stops by the sheriff's office and tells him about the encounter, to his surprise the sheriff  tells him "I get reports like that up here all the time." you can file a report on it but chances are its never  going to be followed up on(investigated).

Jeffs story is a terrifying encounter with something many don't even believe to exist, but it also make's you wonder how close he was to becoming just another missing person in the wilderness?

How many people encounter these things and just never live to tell the tale.

Jeff Boiler was on a show called Paranormal Witness, if you would like to hear his first hand account just look that up, it's a great ep.

The New Hampshire Wood Devil.

A short post today, more coming soon ! :)

                         The New Hampshire Wood Devil

The Woods Devil, or more likely  Woods Devils, is a  Bigfoot like cryptid  that has been sighted in the woodlands and hills of Coos County, New Hampshire since at least the 1930s.

They may be a  subspecies of Bigfoot.or they may be a separate species all together.

According to eye witness accounts it resembles a  skinny Sasquatch-like creatures standing as  tall as around 7-9 feet and has shaggy tan-gray hair.

One unusual trait, slightly similar to  behavior of the Hidebehind, or even the Whirling Whimpus, is that this cryptid uses the trees to hide.

It's said that these creatures will hide behind a tree when a human is coming, and stay behind that tree until they leave. If there is no cover to hide in, the Woods Devil will stand perfectly still.

Woodsmen, hikers, and others have described hearing screams of these creatures echoing the hollows of Coos County.

Tales of the Woods Devils were told old lumberjack and can be found is  the tales of fearsome critters.
