Monsters, Cryptid and Yokai :.. Devil Monkeys

Devilllmonkey

                                        .......   The Devil Monkey .........

The Devil Monkey, is a Baboon like canin cryptid, spotted in several state's through out  the United States, most recently in  the south...

An eye witness account claims  that she noticed her dog was acting very agitated when they we're on they're hike through Mt. Elden forest trail, when she noticed a small group of primate like creatures scurrying through the rocks.

She described them as 4-5 feet tall, very quick and agile.

There have also been other sightings in other states such as New Mexico, Utah and Colorado. Unique breeds of monkey have been described as being about 3 to 4 feet tall, although some eyewitnesses have sworn that these things  can reach  a terrifying  height that is in excess of 7 feet tall.

The first reported encounter with this fast, dangerous predator occurred in 1934, in South Pittsburgh, Tennessee.

According to the reports — which were allegedly published in national newspapers — eyewitnesses described a mysterious beast that could “leap across fields” with “lightening speed.” This ability to jump great distances — up to 20 feet according to some accounts — have led some to speculate that these animals may have something in common with the Kangaroos that have  allegedly been seen throughout the United States for decades.

The suggestion is that those who think they’re seeing kangaroos from a distance are, in fact, seeing Devil Monkeys. While these 1934 encounters may or may not be associated with this phenomenon, the first “official” Devil Monkey sighting occurred in 1959, while a couple by the name of Boyd were driving through the mountains near their home in Saltville, Virginia.

According to their account, an ape-like animal  attacked their car, leaving three scratch marks on the vehicle.

The Boyd’s daughter, Pauline, described the terrifying attacker:  It had light, taffy colored hair, with a white blaze down its neck and underbelly… it stood on two, large well-muscled back legs and had shorter front legs or arms.” Boyd went on to describe a second Devil Monkey encounter that occurred just days later in the same region: “Several days after this incident, two nurses from the Saltville area were driving home from work one morning and were attacked by an unknown creature who ripped the convertible top from their car.” Luckily the nurses — though surely frightened out of their wits — were unharmed.

In 1969, esteemed mystery ape researchers Johnn Green looked into accounts of a long-tailed “monkey” beast that eyewitnesses claimed was lurking near Mamquam, British Columbia.

This creature was said to have left a series of distinctive, three toed tracks — much like those attributed to Devil Monkeys as well as the legendary Bigfoot— in its wake.

In 1973, famed cryptozoologist and author Lauren Coleman investigated reports of three, black bushy-tailed “giant monkeys” that were said to have slaughtered livestock in Albany, Kentucky. Coleman mentioned the event in an interview with Animal Planet: “I investigated that case in depth. I interviewed the people, who were very sincere.

In the whole context of devil monkey reports, it seemed extremely sincere.

You have these reports of hairy, monkey-like creatures with tails, very different from Bigfoot.” In 1979, there was a spate of reported encounters with a bipedal, monkey-like critter known as the Bigfoot which hailed from the rural depths of Georgia. One female eyewitness described it as: “The ugliest looking thing I've ever seen… (it had a tail) like a beaver’s, but it’s bushy.” She also claimed in bore “a face like a dog.” These traits are all known to be Devil Monkey characteristics.

There have been several  eyewitnesses that have describe this cryptid  as resembling a wild dog at a distance, which would suggests that they  may be capable of   both bipedal and quadrupedal movement...

American Cryptid: Montana's The Shunka Warakin.

.............

The Shunka Warakin sometimes referred to as Shunka Warak'in meaning "Carries off Dog's" is a large wolf or hyena like cryptid said to stalk the forest of Montana.

A strange looking canine creature was  shot  by a rancher named  by Israel Ammon Hutchins in 1886 , on what is now the Sun Ranch in Montana.

Joseph Sherwood, a taxidermist, acquired it from Hutchins, mounted it and put it on display in his combination general store-museum in Henry's Lake, Idaho.

Mister Sherwood named the beast "Ringdocus". This stuffed trophy, the only piece of physical evidence, was never examined by qualified scientists and went missing for some time, before it was rediscovered in December 2007.

Cryptozoologists suggest that the Native American folklore can be explained by prehistoric mammals such as hyaenodons, dire wolves, members of the subfamily Borophaginae (hyena-like dogs), or Chasmaporthetes (the only true American hyena).

Others suggest more plausible explanations. For instance  back in December 2005 through November 2006, an odd reddish colored 106 lbs wolf killed 36 sheep (and injuring 71 more) in McCone and surrounding counties in Montana.

It was shot on November 2, 2006, in Garfield County, Montana, after killing as many as  120 sheep. Initially, Montana wildlife officials were unable to identify the 106-pound, reddish-yellow animal. Thought to be a Shunka Warakin, but it has since been identified by the Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks Department as a four year old male wolf with unusually red colored fur.

American Cryptids: Cactus Cat.

                🌵---🐈-----Cactus Cat----🐈---🌵

 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Diet and Habitat, Cactus Cat is a barbed or spiky cat like cryptid that's spotted mostly in the Southwestern  states and part's of Mexico, it  has a mild temperament and seems to enjoy Cactus sap.
...........................................................................................................................................................

Many people at least those in the Southwest have heard of the Jackalope a bunny with antlers (Post on him Later)....

But How many of you know of the Cactus Cat?

This not so cuddly creature has been  spotted through out the American southwest but what is it, a new spices of feline, desert hysteria or just a misidentified know large cat...

 .............

The legend of the Cactus Cat is most likely the result of misidentification, probably a normal  bobcat, or possibly even a porcupine.

The cat's  strange call or wail may have been that of a puma.

Or quit  possibly, Cactus Cat could even be an undiscovered  species of bobcat with quills....who knows...

===================================================================

The first sightings of Cactus Cat seems to have originated with cowboys and pioneers heading west in the  1800's.

They claim to have witnessed this creature mostly  at night, it would apparently be seen slashing open cacti and exposing the sap.

Only to return a few  nights after, at witch point it was said to drink the fermented juice.

However doing this seemed to caused the cats to enter an drunken state, stumbling around and sometimes attacking travelers.

Cactus Cat attack's are still considered rare, but did happen from time to time, with many frontiersmen waking up to find welts on their body from the cat's barbed tail.

Although despite these minor attacks, the Cactus Cat was not considered an aggressive creature.

This spiky little guy is also  known to have a unique or even haunting "wail" that could be heard throughout the dark and desolate  desert late at night. along with the dry sound of its bones rubbing together.(Possibly the barbs or quills hitting one another.)..

............Cactus Cat is also a Brand of Beer.....

Cryptids and Myths: Vampiers..

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Human history is filled with unexplained event's and creatures beyond imagination.

From childhood and onward we go through our lives in fear what lurks within the shadow just out of sight, from the monster under the bed, to the boogeyman and every-other monster imaginable whether real or imagined in ancient times this was an advantageous means of survival against very real threats wolves bears ext. This survival  mechanism has been deeply ingrained into our psyche

But what may be hiding in the darkness just out of sight waiting for you..

Vampires....The immortal undead with an unsavory taste for human blood.

There have been many famous monsters through  out human history, but none so recognizable as the Vampire. Through classic Myth, Legend and folklore to modern  TV, Movies,  Dramas and more this creature of the night has haunted our imaginations since time immemorial..

Every culture around the world has legends regarding the Vampire in one form or another..

=====================================================
============ European  Vampire =======
===================================

The vampire is a reanimated corpse that feeds on the blood of the living to prevent its body from decomposing.

The slender  pale-skinned vampire we know of to today is a relatively new interpretation of this creature that started around the  early 19th century with the publication of (The Vampyre ) — a short story by John Polidori  in 1819.

In the original vampire legend from  Eastern Europe the creature was described as a bloated corpse  with  dark or ruddy skin as a result from feeding on blood.

==============================
=Somewhat Graphic Description ahead==
==============================
When the body of a suspected vampire was disinterred (dug up), it would sometimes look as if it  hadn't decomposed at all, often the   hair, teeth and fingernails appear too have grow longer.

Other times the body would look, bloated with blood seeping from the nose and mouth.

Today we know now this is just common  decomposition with the  rate of decomposition   varying  slightly  depending  on number of different factors.

Normally temperature and soil composition; decrease or accelerate the rate dead flesh loses fluids, which in turn causes it to pull back exposing  the roots of hair, teeth and nails; and that gases from decomposition build up in the torso, making the body look bloated and forcing blood to ooze from the nose and mouth.

Common beliefs about vampires include that they are most active at night, but not necessarily vulnerable to sunlight. Garlic, crucifixes and holy water were common devices for warding off vampire attacks .

It was believed that driving a wooden stake into the body would somehow release the evil spirit, with decapitation also being a way to hasten the evil soul's departure. in some areas they would piece the heart with a pin before burial others would drive a stake through the heart regardless of vampire sighting in the area as a sort of preventative measure.

======Russian and East Europe===============================
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Russian upir and the Greek vrykolakas. In these traditions, sinners, unbaptized babies and other people outside the Christian faith were more likely to be reanimated after death.

Those who practiced witchcraft were particularly susceptible because they had already given their soul to the devil in life. Once the undead corpses rose from the grave, they would terrorize the community, feeding on the living.

Western Europe, has the vampir, or vampyr,  Russian upir and Romania the Strigoi.

                                                      -`-`-`-`-`-` Strigoi-`-`-`-``-`-

Vampires in Moldavia, Wallachia and Transylvania (now modern  Romania) were called strigoi.

Strigoi were almost always human spirits who had returned from the dead.

Unlike the upir or vrykolakas, the strigoi would pass through different stages after rising from the grave. Initially, a strigo might be a poltergeist like being tormenting its former family members by moving furniture around. After some time, it would eventually  become visible, looking just  the way it  did in life.

After returning to physical form , the strigo would return to its family once more, and torment them in various ways such as  stealing cattle, begging for food and bringing disease. Strigoi would feed on humans, first their family members and then anyone else they happened to come across. In some accounts, the strigoi would suck their victims' blood directly from the heart.

Initially, a strigo needed to return to the grave regularly, just like an upir.

If the town people suspected someone of being a strigo, they would exhume the body and burn it, or run spikes through it. But after seven years, if a strigo was still around, it could live wherever it pleased. It was said that strigoi would travel to distant towns to begin new lives as ordinary people, and that these secret vampires would meet with each other in weekly gatherings. similar to a witches gathering....

In the middle-ages people that lost  there lives to  the Black Plague where thought to be victims of vampire attacks.

Much like the Witch hunts and werewolf hunts that proceeded it Vampire hysteria was running rampant  Europe during the 17th and 18th century.

People would often  reported seeing their dead relatives walking around and attacking the living. This got so bad that authorities began digging up  graves, burning and staking the corpses.

Word of the vampire scare eventually  spread to western Europe, leading to  academic speculations on the creatures, as well as vampire poems and paintings. These works in turn inspired an Irishman named Bram Stoker to write his vampire novel, "Dracula."

                                                     Bela Lugosi as Dracula

...............................................................................................

When you mention the word Vampire most people automatically think of Dracula.

Based on Vlad The Impaler , though not actually a vampire was none the less just as feared by his enemies .

Vlad III Dracula, Also known as Vlad the Impaler or Vlad Dracula, He is considered one of the most important rulers in Wallachian (Modern Romania)  history and a national hero of Romania.
........................................................................................................................................

The Count St Germain was said to possibly be a vampire...

Germain was a European adventurer and traveler, with an interest in alchemy and science.

He associated with several members of European high society  in the mid-1700s.

It was said that Prince Charles of Hesse-Kassel considered him to be "one of the greatest philosophers who ever lived".

St. Germain used a variety of names and titles, an accepted practice among royalty and nobility at the time. These include the Marquis de Montferrat, Comte Bellamarre, Chevalier Schoening, Count Weldon, Comte Soltikoff, Graf Tzarogy, and Prinz Ragoczy. In order to deflect inquiries

 ......Germains life across the pond...

Vampires, werewolf's (Loupgaru) witch craft and voodoo can all be found in New Orleans

But was Jacque St. Germain an alchemic genius that discovered the secret too immortality or was he in fact a vampire?

St Germains or at least a man claiming too be him moved into a  home located at 1039 Royal Street in New Orleans.

                                                        ...Germains house..

St. Germain was  lady’s man, often seen with a beautiful woman on his arm while strolling through the French Quarter, or clubbing in elegant locales late into the night.

He would in throwing dinner parties for the members of the city’s high society   .

His parties were highly anticipated due to their lavish cuisine, fine wine, and entertainment. St. Germain fascinated his guests with stories of France, Italy, Africa, and many other places

During dinner he would tell tales his guests tales of his adventures around the world.

However he seemed to have an odd habit of not eating  at his own party's, choosing only to drink presumably wine from a chalice instead,  this coupled with his uncanny resemblance to the Comte St. Germain portrait that hung in his home, had many in the city suggesting (Jokingly at first) that perhaps the mysterious man was in fact a vampire.

These rumors would soon take dark turn,.

One night the police were called to St. Germain’s home to investigate  a woman who had seemingly fallen from his balcony on the second floor.

His guest, that night was a woman who was rumored to have been a prostitute, had in fact leapt from his balcony, rather than fallen, as bystanders had originally recounted .

While she survived the fall, she was terrified.  People on the street surrounded her and tended to her needs while help was called .

Hysterical, the woman ranted that she had jumped to escape St. Germain, who had bitten her neck. She screamed and sobbed out her story, claiming she was only able to escape when her assailant was briefly distracted by aloud knocking on his door.

Police at first did not believe her as Germain was a well respected member of the community after all.

However he soon completely vanished from the city..

After witch according too legends The police went too investigate   and on the second floor of the house they discovered a series of open but corked wine bottles. filled with a  mixture of wine and large quantities of human blood.

Jacque St. Germain was allegedly never seen in New Orleans again...

A jiangshi, is also known as a Chinese "hopping vampire" but it's more like a type of zombie.

Jiangshi" is read geung-si in Cantonese, Phi Dip Chin in Thai, cương thi in Vietnamese, gangsi in Korean, kyonshī in Japanese, and "hantu pocong" in Malay and Indonesia.

It is usually described as a stiff corpse dressed in official garments  from the Qing Dynasty and it moves around by hopping, with its arms outstretched. It kills living creatures to absorb their qi/chi, or "life force", usually at night, during the day, it rests in a coffin or hides in dark places abandon buildings caves etc.

..........................................

A Jiangshi's appearance can range from somewhat normal  (Someone that was just recently buried to horrifying (rotting flesh  and / or full rigor mortise typical of corpses that has been in the ground for an extended piriod of time.

. The Chinese character for "jiang" (僵) in "jiangshi" literally means "hard" or "stiff". It is believed that the jiangshi is so stiff that it cannot bend its limbs and body, so it has to move around by hopping while keeping its arms stretched out for mobility.

Jiangshi are depicted in popular culture to have a paper Talisman (with a sealing spell) attached to and hanging off the forehead in portrait orientation, and wear a coat-like robe and round-top tall rimmed hat characteristic of a mandarin  (Chinese official from the Qing dynasty).

Its is often described as having a  greenish-white skin; one theory is that this greenish color comes from mold or fungus on the deceased body

It is also  said to have long white hair  and may behave like an animal.

The influence of western vampire stories brought the blood-sucking aspect to the Chinese myth in more modern times also sometimes combined with the story's of the hungry ghost.

However in traditional versions of the creature  they only feed on the qi (Lfe Force) of the  living  in order to grow more powerful.

Jiangshi are also sad to be terrified d of there own reflections.

These creatures though not as prevalent in media as there western counterpart have been in many Anime, games and moves of the years..

American Cryptids: Phantom Kangaroos

                                       Phantom Kangaroos sightings in America

Most of these sightings were probably just escaped zoo kangaroos or wallabies or possibly escaped or released exotic pets, however some sightings do fit the description of an extinct type of giant short-faced kangaroo called Procoptodon.

These animals were herbivores and lived in groups.

There is really no explanation for kangaroos eating police dogs though unless it is a surviving Ekaltadeta, a predatory fanged kangaroo that lived in Australia over 10 million years ago.

But killing the police dogs is possible for a kangaroo they are surprisingly good at fighting even more so  if the kangaroo had been infected with rabies or was attempting to defend itself.

Loren Coleman and Mark A. Hall theories that some sightings of phantom kangaroos may actually be sightings of devil monkeys.. (described as a shaggy, canine-faced baboon-like creatures with powerful, almost kangaroo-like leg. post on them soon)

Though kangaroos and wallabies outside of Australia is not unheard of, Isle of Man has been home to hundreds of wild wallabies ever since a pair escaped in the 1970s

.....................................................................................
Other sightings....

During the tornado of 1899 in Richmond, Wisconsin, a woman saw a kangaroo leaping across her backyard.

In 1934, a giant kangaroo supposedly killed and ate police dogs in Hamburg, Tennessee.

In 1958, Charles Wetzel saw a kangaroo chasing dogs near his cabin home in the Platte River near Grand Island Nebraska.

Leonard Ciagi and Michael Byrne (two policemen) saw a kangaroo in an alley in 1974. The animal escaped by kicking Ciagi in the legs when he tried to handcuff the kangaroo.

In 1978, in Waukesha, Wisconsin, two men took a blurry picture of a kangaroo they saw in a bush.

In 1981, Ray Ault, was tending to his sheep flock when a huge kangaroo came bounding past.

In 1999, a woman named Lois Eckhardt saw a big animal jump by cows on her farm in Wellman, Iowa.

In 2000, people saw a kangaroo eating leaves in Lewsiham, London

In 2013 a group of hunters in Oklahoma recorded a kangaroo in  a field and posted the video to youtube, many people believe that it was an escaped pet, that went missing a year before this sighting.

North American Monster Sightings, Werewolf's.

Do Werewolf's stalk the wood's of rural Kentucky....

For about seventy years a tall biped wolf like creature has been making regular appearances in rural Kentucky.

This creature is known as the Bearilla. The name Bearilla comes from a description given by the first witness to go public with his sighting, in 1972. While being interviewed by the media, he stated the creature looked like a cross between a bear and a gorilla. It was dubbed the Bearilla by the press.
It is most often seen in the Gateway region of the state.

The Gateway is the area located between the flat lands of the Bluegrass region and the mountains of Eastern Kentucky. For this reason it is also referred to as the Gateway Werewolf.

Most witnesses describe it as being basically the same type creature that has been spotted in the Northern states, except the Bearilla is always described as having a white or a silvery grey coat. It is close to the height of an average man, with its arms and legs being similar in proportion to that of a human. The hands, or fore-paws, are said to have long curving, sharp claws. The feet, judging by footprints, are said to be elongated and somewhat human like, but with shorter toes and a configuration more like that of a canine. The most striking feature, according to witness accounts, is the elongated muzzle with large, protruding canine teeth and pointed incisors. This wolf-like creature also has a tendency to be much more aggressive than its Northern cousins.

There have been several instances of aggressive behavior, toward humans. from this creature. Two involved actual attacks; both required treatment at local hospitals.

The first attack and first report of this creature, in Kentucky, occurred in Johnson County in 1944. Here a teenage boy almost had a fight to the death, with the beast, over a string of fish. The boy reported he had been fishing along a small stream and had a considerable number of fish on his stringer. He stated that as he was preparing to leave when a wolf like creature ran up from the creek bank and attempted to take his fish. It was described as being silvery-grey and standing about six feet tall. The boy attempted to keep the fish, but he was overpowered and the creature made of with his catch. The boy stated that as the creature walked off, it turned and smiled at him. The boy was treated at a local hospital for deep lacerations and shock.

The story was never made public, but information of the incident was leaked out by one of the attending medical personnel on duty at the time
The second attack occurred in 1972, along Hinkston Creek in Bourbon County. Here an early morning squirrel hunter was attacked and suffered several deep lacerations across the back and legs. The unfortunate hunter stated he was attacked from the rear and was pushed down on the ground. The hunter did not get a good look at the creature.

He only saw its hands and a few brief flashes of the rest of the body. He described it as white or silver with hands that were basically like a humans, only with much longer fingernails and they were covered in white hair. The creature then proceeded to basically “bounced” him up and down. The hunter credits his escape from a possible real death, to playing dead. The horrified victim could not think of any possible way he could have provoked the attack. He stated “ It just came out of no where and jumped me”

This werewolf like creature also seems to have an uncanny ability to escape pursuers. After the attack on the hunter, a local group of men formed an old fashioned posse and went in search of the attacker. Around dusk, the group, with assistance from hunting dogs, seemed to have corned the creature in an old barn When the men and dogs attempted to enter the barn, the dogs cowered down and whimpered in fear. The posse then decided to surround the barn and wait for daylight. The next morning the dogs rushed in without showing any fear. To everyone’s surprise the barn was empty.

Whatever frightened the dogs the night before, was now gone. None of the hunters reported seeing anything leave the barn. The only signs anything had been in the barn, were what appeared to be claw marks on the wall of the barn. It appears the creature had climbed to the top of barn and simply vanished,
The last known sightings, in the Gateway Area, occurred in 1999, near Morehead, Ky. A couple observed two of these creatures standing in a clearing near Highway 60. When they attempted to photograph the unusual duo, both creatures bared their fangs and emitted low growls. Needless to say the couple fled the area immediately.

These creatures also seem to inhabit the areas around Ashland, Kentucky. Like their northern counter parts, these entities seem to enjoy hanging out in graveyards. In the 1980’s, the Ashland Cemetery was a hot bed for sightings of a this werewolf like creature.
It was most often seen running between headstones and jumping the wall surrounding the cemetery. The witnesses all commented that the creature had incredible leaping power. It is said to have thad a habit of chasing humans and at one point actually cornered two lawmen, sent to investigate a sighting. The officers stated that the creature came within thirty feet of them and paced back and forth between headstones growling. The creature eventually got bored with harassing the officers and wandered back into the cemetery.

This creatures jumping ability was demonstrated again on a Greenup County back road in 2001. A couple, driving separate cars, encountered this creature running down the road toward them. Instead of going around both cars, it simply leaped over both and continued its journey down the middle of the road.

The last Bearilla sighting occurred in Eastern Kentucky in 2005. A homeowner turned on his porch light, to investigate a strange noise. He was startled to see what he first thought was a child, but after he got a better look, he decide this was no child …. at least not a human one! He described it as being about three feet tall, covered with hair and having a ’dog face”. Whatever it was made a hasty retreat when it realized it had been discovered.

The sighting in 2005 was the last reported werewolf encounter in Kentucky. Did they die, move away or are they still lurking in the woods? Only time will tell!

Is there a Werewolf in Virginia...

The Werewolf of Henrico Conty

The year's there have been several Werewolf sightings in and around Virginia, A large number of them seem to be in  one location in particular....

Henrico County Virginia.

These sighting's are  known as the Werewolf of Henrico County.

Though the story is now somewhat of an of urban legend, sightings continue …

Still it’s hard to find real first-hand accounts, every thing said about this creatur is ether  something that a friend said.  or a friend of a friend had a sighting a few day's / weeks ago...

All  accounts of the werewolf sightings seem to describe a similar beast, a large grayish white creature covered in fur that stands upright  on it's hind leg's and has the face of an animal.

The majority of these sightings seem to be  focused in Henrico County Virginia in and around the Confederate Hills Recreation Center.

But it's still unclear how often the werewolf appears or what its appearances coincide with....

A possible explanations for these werewolf sightings could be a hoax by one or more of the locals.

It's not out of the question to assume  a few  local teen's would be able to fake the sighting's  with a well crafted  Halloween costume and  play prank on the local community. Though that would be very stupid to a attempt, as your likely to get shot doing something like that!

There are also those that deny all the sighting's could be nothing more then a prank.

There are a few other explanation's floating around One such explanation to the sightings  have been offered are actually  bigfoot, and since this area is also a huge spot for bigfoot sightings.

If that's true, this would not be the first time a bigfoot has been mistaken for a werewolf. From a distance, both bigfoot and werewolves can look similar. In the darkness, a large bipedal creature covered in fur looking vaguely human like could be mistaken as either.

Unless you have a close-up encounter, it could be very difficult to determine which creature it actually is.

You would think a real werewolves would steer clear of public places and try to stay hidden, in an area like a park the  chances of being spotted and identified are extremely high.

So..

What do you think, is it real of fake?
