 The Giant Rabbits of the Australian outback


What would you do if you where just minding your own business trying to strick it rich when all of the sudden you see a giant rabbit... 

Apparently prospectors lived this exact situation.


These massive cryptids from the Australia where first reported by gold prospectors, who claimed to have seen giant rabbits anywhere from  nine feet and possibly up to twelve feet high that could move  at extreme speeds. the original source for these reports, which were first mentioned by Ivan T. Sanderson, is unknown, though likely came from retellings of previous stories thought the years .

He created the Society for the Investigation of the Unexplained which covered various cryptozoological cases. Some believe these giant rabbits were actually living diprotodons not actually massive bunny's but an ancient species of  giant kangaroos

Or Sthenurine Kangaroos: Experts like Christine Janis and Karl Shuker believe sightings were possibly  Sthenurus or Procoptodon, extinct, short-faced, large-forearmed kangaroos that may have resembled very large rabbits.

Diprotodon was  less lily to bed confused with a large rabbit as it was a a rhino-sized, wombat-like marsupial that went extinct thousands of years ago.

To this day, nobody truly knows what was seen by the prospectors or what still roams in the vast Australian outback.

It seems that every country or at least most have a version of a hairy manlike cryptid that roams the forests or mountains ..

North America's Bigfoot/Sasquatch the Rock Apes of Vietnam, the Yeti of the Himalayas and so on..

Well Japan is no exception, the Japanese version is called the Hibagon..

The first reported sighting was in Hiroshima Prefecture in what is now Shobara City during July of 1970.

FIRST SIGHTING...

July 20, 1970, that a man in his 30s said he saw from his car an unusual two-legged creature walking down a mountain road in the Yuki district in the former town of Saijo, now incorporated into the city of Shobara, before it slowly retreated back up the trail after noticing it was being watched.

Second and third Sighting..

A man who was cutting grass near his home early in the morning of July 23, three days after the first sighting, claimed to have seen a creature in a grassy area with a "human face." 

Another man on July 30 called out to a person whom he believed was a relative walking along a footpath to a rice field, but it turned out to be a "gorilla-type monster.

In 1971 the government special office to take reported sightings this continued until about 1975 when the sightings started to drop eventually leading to the office being shutdown there were a total of 29 local sightings from 1970-75.

Later sightings of a similar creature took place  in the neighboring city of Yamano, it was called the yabagon it was sighted infrequently for a few years leading people the believe the Hibagon had simply moved to a new location however the yabagon seemed to have disappeared too as it has not been spotted since 1980.

It's believed to live near Mount Hiba in the Chūgoku Mountains. 

Like Bigfoot/Sasquatch the Hibagon walks upright on two legs, standing about 5 -6 feet or up to 1.5 meters tall and very muscular build for it's size.

Eyewitnesses have described the unidentified figure as resembling a gorilla covered in dark brown bristles

 Their bodies are completely covered in black, gray, or dark brown hair.

 Their faces resemble an inverted triangle, and they have bulging eyes that slant upwards. Their voices resemble a dolphin’s call.

There are many theories on what the hibagon actually was.

Some suggest it was a  large Japanese macaques, black bears, a humans in a suit or possibly an  alien being but no one is entirely sure...

The sightings eventually got the attention of the local authority's and media. Leading to a newspaper article..

A former reporter, then Shobara bureau chief of the Chugoku Shimbun, who wrote the article, was quoted in the Hiroshima-based daily as saying, "I didn't take the first call seriously because I thought it was just a hoax, but then I got another call from someone else who gave an eyewitness account."

After meeting separately with the three eyewitnesses to hear and compare their stories, the reporter said all appeared shaken up, with one saying, "I can't live here anymore." Another complained of people accusing him of "faking" the story and not believing him.

A footprint that was cast in 1970

A plaster cast of "footprint" believed to belong to the Hibagon was cast on December 16, 1970 and was kept in the chief's office of the Shobara Police Station, which is part of the Hiroshima Prefectural Police.

the Shobara Police Department has donated the footprint to the tourism association, which moved it to JR Bingo-Saijo Station.

 The tourist association used the donation as an opportunity to start recruitment for a "Hibagon Explorers" fan club that has seen about 40 people from around Japan join.

A tour of the mountain road where the first sightings took place was planned for may 2024.

Today the Hibagon has become a symbol of the town, and signs with its  likeness can be seen everywhere.

Highway Ghost in Arizona 👻

William Church, a truck driver who reportedly drove down Arizona State Route 87 on Saturday, March 11, noticed a bright glare in his dashcam, and he thinks the flashing figure may  be a ghost

The figure was spotted at around 2:30 a.m. while Church passed the highway’s 200-mile marker, which is located between Phoenix and Payson, Arizona.

This 277 mile stretch of highway was build in 1927 and is considered one of Arizona's most dangerous roads, especially at night and tragically there have been several fatal car accidents through out the nealy one hundred years this old highway has been around, which many locals now believe could be haunted 

 

A recent fatal car crash happened on Arizona State 87 near milepost 201 in early February, according to FOX 10 Phoenix News.

 Could this figure be the wondering spirit of one of the many unfortunate people that have lost their lives on this stretch if desert road ?

American Cryptids, The Beast of Busco

 

 

                                        BEAST OF BUSCO GIANT SNAPPING TURTLE



The Beast of Busco is a cryptid legend from Churubusco, Indiana.

The Beast of Busco aka Oscar by all accounts is a very large  snapping turtle first seen in 1898,
However despite a month long hunt in 1949, the "Beast of Busco" was never found.

The Beast of Busco also called Oscar in honor of the original eyewitness in Churubusco,
Indiana, is a giant snapping turtle that lived in a seven acre lake.

According to legend, one day in 1898  a farmer named Oscar Fulk saw what he described as a giant turtle living in the seven-acre lake on his farm  near Churubusco.

He told others residence about the creature, but eventually just decided to leave it alone.

Then fifty years later  in July, 1948, two Churubusco citizens, Ora Blue and Charley Wilson, reported
seeing a huge alligator snapping turtle (weighing an estimated 500 +pounds) while fishing on the same lake,  that at this point had been named Fulk Lake.

A farmer named Gale Harris now owned the land.

Harris and several others reported seeing the creature.

News about this strange massive beast soon spread, and several expeditions were held to try and capture the big beast  or at least remove it from the the lake.

Methods  included draining and motor boating the lake and diving with no success, many believe he still lurks beneath the waves of that small  lake others claim he has moved to newer waters  the Beast of Busco.

So what was Oscar ? was there really a massive turtle or turtle like creature in that lake?

Many people claim the Beast of Busco never really existed and the story was just Oscar's (the farmer not the turtle) way of making his small town a bit more lively.

Today, Oscar is honored in the turtle days festival each June.

It includes a parade, carnival and even turtle races.

A turtle shell labeled "Beast of Busco" hangs in the Two Brothers Restaurant in Decatur, Indiana.

A small concrete statue of a turtle sits on the sidewalk at the main intersection in the center of Churubusco.

At one point future town councilman surveyed the lake from a plane.

Reporters from the Indianapolis Star and a Fort Wayne gazette—along with a representative from the Cincinnati zoo—confirmed having seen the beast, A photographer from Life magazine even came to cover the story, though his pictures were never published.

At it's peak during the spring of 1949, there were as many as 400 cars an hour counted passing the farm that spring with the Harris family selling coffee and hot dogs  to the sight-seers.

Helen Harris, Gale’s wife, described those frenetic days in a story posted in a booklet commemorating the 25th anniversary of Oscar. Here are some excerpts: “After the newspapers started printing the story about Oscar, people started coming to our farm from everywhere. If you never had an experience similar to this you wouldn’t believe the actions of the public. We couldn’t sit down and eat a meal in peace or get our work done on schedule. I remember one morning we were in the barn milking and a reporter came out and wanted us to quit milking and answer some questions. We told him we had to finish milking first.”

The 400 acre farm was sold in 1950.

Once the U.S. Coast Guard got involved and diving began; and attempts to hunt and trap the beast elicited responses from the Noble County  Game Warden and the Indiana Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

Eventual  a 200-pound female sea turtle was introduced into the lake to lure out Oscar to no prevail. 

The town of Churubusco began celebrating Turtle Days the following summer, and adopted the nickname “ Turtle Town U.S.A.”

Have you ever seen the movie Cat People, it's about a woman that can turn into a panther, pure fiction right?

But what if i told you there have been several sightings of WereCat's or at the very least bipedal Cat like creatures...

Have you ever heard of the cat man?

Sightings of strange cat like creatures have been reported for decades, less so then Bigfoot or the dogman but enough to show that people are in fact seeing something beyond just a large cat or misidentifying a random bear.

Everyone knows what a Werewolf is we see them in everything from classic horror movie's and literature to modern movies and paranormal drama's.

It seems history is full of odd creatures, so very different then us, but still so similar,
Werewolfs, Lizardman, Mothman, Owl Man, Kanima, (Not the Teen Wolf reptilian version)
The real legend speaks of a creature of vengeance that is very similar to a jaguar this version is a
type of werecat or at least a humanoid cat .


Although Dogman sightings seem to be far more prevalent, there have been several accounts of Cat-Man or cat like humanoid cryptid's ranging from panther's to Tigers and Lions and they seem to be far more territorial and violent then there canine counterparts.

Mt Tamalpais Catman of 1964

Two  campers in Mt Tamalpais in Marin county California clams   to have been harassed by at last two cat like entity's during the night somewhere  just outside there camp site heading in the darkness they could hear these creatures making a strange chattering sound as the seemingly communicating with one another.

One of the creatures remand in the darkness well the other ventured closer to the camp site.

One witness  description stated " It's head was close to it's body and below the shoulders it was very muscular No ears could be seen."

The witnesses did not see a tail and guessed the weight of the creature at around 200 lbs or so, and was bipedal.

1968 Tiger creature

In 1968 Connecticut bus driver  traveling down Valley Street in New Haven claimed to see what he describes as a Tiger walking on two leg's crossing the street, police were unable to locate the creature.

Chicago Cat Man...

One night in 1969 a Chicago man driving down a dark road in Niels Michigan claimed to have seen a strange cat like creature standing on two feet on the side of the road. He slowed down to get a better look then suddenly the creature rushed his car and began attacking it, punching his windshield with it's large clawed fists breaking the glass in at  least four places as he quickly drove away. The witness calmed  the cat like creature made a strange sqealling sound that he found very disturbing.




Mike Busby Encounter ..

On Friday April 10th 1970 was on his way to Olive Branch Illinois heading down route 3, but at about a mile outside of Olive Branch near a dark road by the Shawnee National forest his car stalled, Busby pulled over and get out to see what was wrong. Suddenly he heard  movement on his left side, turning to the direction he was startaled to find two large greenish glowing eye's looking back at him, he was suddenly charged by what he describes as a six foot tall jet black panther on two leg's. The creature struck him in the face with it's massive paws knocking him to the ground at with point it climbed on top of his chest and continued beating him.Busby sustained injurious to his chest, abdomen and upper left arm. He managed to grab the top and bottom of its jaws preventing it from going for his throat, it had yellow fangs and it's hair as short and wiry like steelwool he said.

Suddenly  the headlight's of an oncoming diesel truck light up the creature and he could see it had dark black fur and a long tail, once the light's and hit it the strange cat was seemingly frightened away
Busby-"With heavy foot falls it loped off the highway running on two leg's."

The TV Show "Monsters and Mysteries in America" did a reenactment of this account on an episode titled "Demon Panthers" that aired March 25th 2015.

1980 Canada Cat-man

An eye witness near Toronto Ontario Canada  claimed to see a bipedal cat creature.

"Pete"--There were tree of us on a night shift on a gold rush run in a piolet plant,Ontario research foundation just west of  Toronto. We were coming in at midnight and up to the industrial door, --- the little peek window you have at eye level was this six foot-ish, black all black creature with it's face right up to the window. So it didn't see us approaching and i guess it heard the car or may bye the lights coughs it's peripheral vision, and it turned and looked at us and the eyes ere gold-ish, reflective and there was something about it's face that was like kind of cat-like and we were startled  it was obviously startled. and you know we're looking at each other you know approaching in the car for a couple of seconds in, and it just turned and bolted into the woods.

I want to look this fellow up to see what he remembers of the incident but i'm 100% serious and 100% sure we both saw the exact same thing. Only one other guy- he was in the plant at the time and i guess this creature was peeking in you know just seeing whats going on in there  but we both told him what we saw and we were just like i say very startled ourselves about it. But i know what i saw and the thing   is it wasn't...There was something about it that wasn't ape-like although it was all black fur, there was something about the head that was kind of like a cat-like creature and the way it ran...two leg's it was like a human figure but it... the speed of the thing when it tore off through the wood's was unbelievable..."

Film maker Dee McCully mentions another Cat like creature being spotted near Black Sturgeon Lake buy Ontario Canada in his 2018 film Northern Lights a UFO Documentary...
"Off highway 1117 on Herken Ontario there is a road leading to the Black Sturgeon Lake, an 80 kilometer ride two men were hired by the forestry sector to build a dock on the lake shore, they had worked all week and were almost finished they would return monday, instead they worked until evening and had decided to finish satuday morning  rather then take the long trip back up after the weekend.

It was a good idea and they made camp then about two am the two men
awoke and without a word being uttered they began too break down the camp and loading the truck
in a more and more hurried pace.

It was then that the saw somethings they shone the flashlight, there in the tall jack pine was a tall creature staring them down, described as having both the features of a cat and a human.
the two leaped into the truck and floored it all the way back to the highway in startled silence."

Ray Jones..................
In 1994 a recently retired Kansas man named Ray Jones moved to a new home in the country,
several acres with a garden and a few animals, Mister Jones was looking forward to his quiet new lifestyle and working on his his award winning Wood carvings, though only 4 years into his retirement Jones had a very strange and frightening encounter one nigh in June of 1998 well working late into the night on one of his carvings in his outbuilding that he had converted into his carving studio  Jones was suddenly disturbed when he heard his to pet crow's making a fus soon followed by the gases and other animals, gases in particular are very territorial  and very load when something come near there area, Jones assuming that a stray dog or fox was heading trowed his hen house but down his tools garbed a stick to chase away the pest and made his way outside with hi old dog Buster.

The night was relatively bright with a full moon hanging overhead, he could hear the chickens going crazy, and headed  over there confident that the stick he we carrying would be enough to scar away whatever was causing the disturbance.

In Jones own word's........

"Although it was almost completely dark in the hen house, I felt the hair stand up on the back of my
neck  when i saw something dark stand up and growl at me. I'm about five -eleven and it was as tall as i am.


Then it charged me, knocking me flat. placing it's pas on my chest and looking down at me.
 I nearly had a heart attack when i found myself staring into the open jaws and pointed fangs of a black panther."

At this point buster came in barking and nipping at the creature, Jones feared for Busters safety saying
Jone's account--"One swipe of it's claws could slice the old dog into hamburger"

Suddenly something seem'ed to startal the cat or it just decided mister Jones wasen't worth the effort anymore and it just claimed off of him, but to Jones amazement the panther stood up on it's to hind legs and walked off.

Jones--" It rolled off me and i swear that it stood upright on it's hind legs"

The panther creature took a look around the area for a moment then dropped down to all fours and bolted into the field eventually out of sight..

Mister Jones though terrified was at lest unharmed , he and his animals made it through this ordeal without injury. But Jones was still frightened and decided he needed to call the police and warn other's  in the community that a large cat was in the area..

Unfortunately the police  were of no help.

Jones--"At first they thought i had been drinking. Then they told me what i already knew, there were no black panthers in Kansas and that there hadn't been and cougars reported in the stat for decades. A deputy finally did drive out  to investigate the scene, but he just chuckled and said that sometimes in the dark a big old tomcat could seem mighty big and vicious and startle a fellow half to death."


But Jones knew what he had seen was not just some big old tomcat, it was a panther capable of walking on two legs a Cat-Man.

After Jones encounter there were no further sightings of the creature....

Jones- "I guess he just jumped back into whatever nightmare he had jumped out of"

Bigfoot, Wendigo, skinwalkers Flying humanoids and Dogman  have been spotted by so many people at this point it's foolish to believe that all these sightings and eyewitness accounts are just misidentify known animals or out right hoax's...But at the end of the day it's up to you to decide for yourself whether or not you believe these creatures really exist...

However our world is  a strange one and it's getting stranger by the day, the world of cryptoziilogy
and the beings that it encompasses are apparently ever expanding.

With new sightings of strange and peculiar beasts every day, is it really beyond the realm of possibility to think  there could be a cat like humanoid stalking the forest as we speak.

American Cryptids: Werewolf or Dogman?

You've probably heard of the Michigan Dogman but did you know  Pennsylvania also has dogman sightings  that date back to at least  the early 1960s,

By most accounts  the Dogman has an look's like it would wight roughly 400 - 500 pound  + and stands about  about seven feet tall (Some are even Taller)  on its hind legs, and three or four feet at the shoulder when on all fours.

It's described as very muscular with larg canine teeth and razor sharp claws Some reports portray it as entirely covered by hair, while others claim it to look more like  a man with a wolf's head.

 As early as 1794 French Michigan French fur traders  reports sightings of the creature they  described as loup garou,  French for werewolf.

The Algonquin legend also mention a dog like  creatures.

Dose a werewolf like being hunt the forest of north America?..

Here are a few sightings...

Werewolf Dogman Sightings

1 - Shapeshifting Werewolf of Texas

Mrs. Delburt Gregg of Greggton, Texas, told of her encounter with a shapeshifting creature in the 1960 issue of Fate. The other surveyed sightings below are of creature that looked like man-wolves but no one have seen one becoming another. Mrs. Gregg have not seen a man turned into a wolf but she has actually came closer then anyone else in telling a tale that sounds like a chapter from a werewolf novel than a real life experience.
Mrs. Gregg said that one night in 1958 when her husband was on a business trip, she moved her bed close to a screen window hoping to catch some cool breeze from a thunderstorm brewing on the south western horizon. She heard a scratching sound from the window shortly after she fell asleep. In a flash of a lightning, she saw a huge, shaggy, wolf-like creature clawing at the screen and staring at her with baleful, glowing, slitted eyes. She saw its bared white fangs.
The creature fled from the yard into a clump of bushes as she leaped from her bed to grab a flash light. Mrs. Gregg said "I watched for the animal to come out of the bushes, but after a short time, instead of a great shaggy wolf running out, the figure of an extremely tall man suddenly parted the thick foliage and walked hurriedly down the road, disappearing into the darkness."

 

 

2 - Wisconsin Werewolf Sighting

Mark Schackelman was driving east of highway 18 near Jefferson, in southeastern Wisconsin on an evening in 1936 when he saw a figure digging in an Indian mound. He saw a hair covered creature that is over six feet tall with both ape-like and dog-like features with pointed ears standing erect. Its hands have shriveled thumb and a forefinger on each and also three fully formed fingers.
Schackelman went back to the sighting the next evening hoping to see the creature again and he did. The creature was making "neo-human" sounds with a three syllable growling. Years later, his son who is a Kenosha newspaper editor, wrote that his "father's first thought was that it must be something satanic." (In southeastern Wisconsin, several decades later, equally enigmatic beast would figure in a host of reports as described below).

 

 

3 - Werewolf Creature in Ohio

Between July and October 1972, a number of residents of Ohio allegedly saw a werewolf-like creature. Some people reported encountering a six to eight-foot tall creature that a witness described as "human, with an oversized, wolf-like head, and an elongated nose." Another said it "had huge, hairy feet, fangs, and it ran from side to side, like a caveman in the movies."

 

4 - Werewolf Attack Reported in New Mexico

Four Gallup, New Mexico, youths allegedly encountered a "werewolf" along the side of a road near Whitewater one day in January 1970. One witness reported "It was about five feet seven, and I was surprised it could go so fast. At first I thought my friends were playing a joke on me, but when I found out they weren't, I was scared! We rolled up the windows real fast and lock the doors of the cars. I started driving faster, about 60, but it was hard because that highway had a lot of sharp turns. Someone finally got a gun out and shot it. I know it got hit and fell down, but there was no blood. I know it couldn't be a person because people cannot move that fast."

 

 

5 - Navaho Skin-Walker

Skin-walker is another name for a werewolf that the Navahos of the southwest. In 1936, in Yale Publications in Anthropology, anthropologist William Morgan recounted an interview with a Navaho identified only as Hahago. Hahago said of skin-walker "They go very fast.They can go to Albuquerque in an hour and a half" - a four-hour trip by automobile, according to Morgan.

 

6 - Red Eyed Werewolves of Pennsylvania

In the fall of 1973 western Pennsylvania played host to dozens of reports of strange apelike creatures, sometimes seen in association with UFOS, said to have (in one witness's words) "fire red eyes that glow in darkness." To be seven to eight feet tall, and gives off a strong unpleasant odor. "Another type of creature" investigator Stan Gordon noted, "was said to be between five and six feet tall. It was described as looking just like an extremely muscular man with a covering of thick dark hair. Again in these reports, the arms were very long and hung down past the knees. This creature appeared to have superior agility exceeding that of a deer. From footprints discovered, the stride of creatures varies between 52 and 57 inches. In these reports there was no indication of odors."

 

7 - Wisconsin Werewolf Attack

Lorianne Endrizzi had a similar encounter as above in the fall of 1989. She was driving on Bray Road, a half a mile away from the above encounter, where she thought it was a person kneeling in a hunched position at the edge of the road. She slowed down and to her surprise, the figure stared at her at no more then six feet across the passenger side of the car. The figure was covered with grayish brown hair, with big fangs and pointed ears. "His face was long and had a snout, like a wolf." She told reporter Scarlett Sankay. The figure's eyes glowed in the darkness and they were a yellowish-gold color. 'The arms were really a kind of strange; jointed like a man or woman would be," she said. "He was holding his hands with his palms upward. The arms were muscular 'like a man who had worked out a little bit." The back legs looked like they were behind him, like a person kneeling." The sighting lasted about 45 seconds and she had no idea what the creature could have been until she saw an illustration at the library of a werewolf.

  

8 - Werewolf Sighting

Around that same time as above in Elkhorn, near Delevan, a dairy farmer named Scott Bray saw a "strange looking dog" along his pasture on Bray Road. It was bigger and taller than a German shepherd, it had pointed ears and hairy tail, with long, scraggly grayish black hair. It is "built heavy in front - a real strong chest." In the soft soil nearby he found enormous footprints which is four to five inches in diameter.

American Cryptids: Phantom Kangaroos

                                       Phantom Kangaroos sightings in America



Most of these sightings were probably just escaped zoo kangaroos or wallabies or possibly escaped or released exotic pets, however some sightings do fit the description of an extinct type of giant short-faced kangaroo called Procoptodon.

These animals were herbivores and lived in groups.

There is really no explanation for kangaroos eating police dogs though unless it is a surviving Ekaltadeta, a predatory fanged kangaroo that lived in Australia over 10 million years ago.

 But killing the police dogs is possible for a kangaroo they are surprisingly good at fighting even more so  if the kangaroo had been infected with rabies or was attempting to defend itself.

Though kangaroos and wallabies outside of Australia is not unheard of, Isle of Man has been home to hundreds of wild wallabies ever since a pair escaped in the 1970s

Other sightings....

During the tornado of 1899 in Richmond, Wisconsin, a woman saw a kangaroo leaping across her backyard.

In 1934, a giant kangaroo supposedly killed and ate police dogs in Hamburg, Tennessee.

In 1958, Charles Wetzel saw a kangaroo chasing dogs near his cabin home in the Platte River near Grand Island Nebraska.

Leonard Ciagi and Michael Byrne (two policemen) saw a kangaroo in an alley in 1974. The animal escaped by kicking Ciagi in the legs when he tried to handcuff the kangaroo.

In 1978, in Waukesha, Wisconsin, two men took a blurry picture of a kangaroo they saw in a bush.

In 1981, Ray Ault, was tending to his sheep flock when a huge kangaroo came bounding past.

In 1999, a woman named Lois Eckhardt saw a big animal jump by cows on her farm in Wellman, Iowa.

In 2000, people saw a kangaroo eating leaves in Lewsiham, London

 In 2013 a group of hunters in Oklahoma recorded a kangaroo in  a field and posted the video to youtube, many people believe that it was an escaped pet, that went missing a year before this sighting.

Is there a Werewolf in Virginia...

The Werewolf of Henrico Conty

The year's there have been several Werewolf sightings in and around Virginia, A large number of them seem to be in  one location in particular....

Henrico County Virginia.

These sighting's are  known as the Werewolf of Henrico County.

Though the story is now somewhat of an of urban legend, sightings continue …

Still it’s hard to find real first-hand accounts, every thing said about this creatur is ether  something that a friend said.  or a friend of a friend had a sighting a few day's / weeks ago...

All  accounts of the werewolf sightings seem to describe a similar beast, a large grayish white creature covered in fur that stands upright  on it's hind leg's and has the face of an animal.

The majority of these sightings seem to be  focused in Henrico County Virginia in and around the Confederate Hills Recreation Center.

But it's still unclear how often the werewolf appears or what its appearances coincide with....

A possible explanations for these werewolf sightings could be a hoax by one or more of the locals.

It's not out of the question to assume  a few  local teen's would be able to fake the sighting's  with a well crafted  Halloween costume and  play prank on the local community. Though that would be very stupid to a attempt, as your likely to get shot doing something like that!

There are also those that deny all the sighting's could be nothing more then a prank.

There are a few other explanation's floating around One such explanation to the sightings  have been offered are actually  bigfoot, and since this area is also a huge spot for bigfoot sightings.

If that's true, this would not be the first time a bigfoot has been mistaken for a werewolf. From a distance, both bigfoot and werewolves can look similar. In the darkness, a large bipedal creature covered in fur looking vaguely human like could be mistaken as either.

Unless you have a close-up encounter, it could be very difficult to determine which creature it actually is.


You would think a real werewolves would steer clear of public places and try to stay hidden, in an area like a park the  chances of being spotted and identified are extremely high.

The Beast of Gevaudan, Terrifying Werewolf Encounter.

The Beast of Gevaudan

Sightings  of the beast took place between 1764 - 1767





 La Bestia de Gavaudan is a name given to a large man eating wolf like creature that is said to have terrorized the former province of Gevaudan Now known as department of Lozere and part of Haute - Loire in the Margeride Mountains in south-central France from 1764 to 1767 over an area stretching 56 by 50 miles....

The beasts were consistently described by eyewitnesses as having many large teeth and immense tails. Their fur had a reddish color, The head was  wolf like with darker brown fur, short stright ears, a wide chest with white fur gaping jaws and a thick long tail, the back paws were large and long according to some witnesses, they appeared to be hooves like a horse, well the front paws were shorter covered in long fur and had six claws on them the creature was also  said to have emitted an unbearable odour.  Once when the beast was seen crossing a river, it raised itself up on it's hind legs like a human and waded across, The creature was said to make a sound closer to that of a horse  neighing then a wolf howling, also low growls  like that of a dog scared of in pain...

It was also very strong and fast, sometimes being seen in different locations very far apart on the same day, during hunting it would crawl so low to the groung that it's belly almost touched the dirt.

One Shepard even claimed the beast could stand up on it's hind legs and was strong enough to lift a full grown sheep with it's  arm's.

Another strange fact worth mentioning is that measurements of distance between footprints show that the beasts were able to clear  up to 28 feet  well running on level ground

They killed their victims by tearing at their throats with their teeth. The number of victims differs according to source. De Beaufort (1987) estimated 210 attacks, resulting in 113 deaths and 49 injuries; 98 of the victims killed were partly eaten. An enormous amount of manpower and resources was used in the hunting of the animals, including the army, conscripted civilians, several nobles, and a number of royal huntsmen.


All animals operated outside of ordinary wolf packs, though eyewitness accounts indicate that they sometimes were accompanied by a smaller female, which did not take part in the attacks

The first attack that provided a description of one of the creatures took place on June 1, 1764. A woman from Langogne  saw a large, lupine  animal emerge from the trees and charge directly toward her, but it was driven away by the farm's bulls.


On June 30, the first official victim of the beast was Jeanne Boulet, 14, killed near the village ofLes Hubacs, not far from Langogne.

On September 21, 1765, Antoine killed a large gray wolf measuring 31 inch's high, 5.6 ft long, and weighing  130 lb. The wolf was called Le Loup de Chazes, after the nearby Abbaye des Chazes. It was agreed locally that this was quite large for a wolf. Antoine officially stated: "We declare by the present report signed from our hand, we never saw a big wolf that could be compared to this one. Which is why we estimate this could be the fearsome beast that caused so much damage." The animal was further identified as the culprit by attack survivors, who recognized the scars on the creature's body, inflicted by victims defending themselves

The wolf was stuffed   and sent to Versailles where Antoine was received as a hero, receiving a large sum of money as well as titles and awards.

However, on December 2, 1765, another beast emerged in La Besseyre ain Mary, severely injuring two children. Dozens more deaths are reported to have followed......

The beast also seemed to target people over farm animals, many times it would attack someone while cattle were in the same field.

On January 12, 1765, Jacques Portefaix and seven friends, including two girls, were attacked by the Beast; they drove it away by staying grouped together. Their fight caught the attention of King Louis XV, who awarded 300 livres  to Portefaix, and another 350 livres to be shared among the others. He also directed that Portefaix be educated at the state's expense. The King had taken a personal interest in the attacks, and sent professional wolf-hunters, Jean Charles Marc Antoine Vaumesle d'Enneval and his son Jean-François, to kill the beast. They arrived in Clermont - Ferrand   on February 17, 1765, bringing with them eight bloodhounds which had been trained in wolf-hunting. They spent several months hunting wolves, believing them to be the beast. However, the attacks continued, and by June 1765 they were replaced by François Antoine (also wrongly named Antoine de Beauterne ) the king's  harquwbus bearer and Lieutenant of the Hunt. He arrived in Le Malzieu on June 22.

he killing of the creature that eventually marked the end of the attacks is credited to a local hunter, Jean Chastel, at the  Sogne d' Auvers on June 19, 1767. Later novelists (Chevalley, 1936) introduced the idea that Chastel shot it with a blesses silver bullet of his own manufacture. Upon being opened, the animal's stomach was shown to contain human remains.



Controversy surrounds Chastel's account of his success. Family tradition claimed that, when part of a large hunting party, he sat down to read the Bible  and pray. During one of the prayers the creature came into sight, staring at Chastel, who finished his prayer before shooting the beast. This would have been aberrant behavior for the beast, as it would usually attack on sight. Some believe this is proof Chastel participated with the beast, or that he had even trained it. However, the story of the prayer may simply have been invented out of religious  views of the time.



Various explanations were offered at the time of the attacks as to the beast's identity. Suggestions ranged from exaggerated accounts of wolf attacks, to a werewolf possibly multiple werewolfs, or even a punishment from God.

Jay M. Smith, in his book "Monsters of the Gevaudan" suggests that the deaths attributed to the beast were more likely the work of a number of wolves or packs of wolves.....


Richard H. Thompson, author of Wolf-Hunting in France in the Reign of Louis XV: The Beast of the Gévaudan, contended that there can be satisfactory explanations based on large wolves for all the Beast's depredations.

Another explanation is that the beasts were some type of domestic dog or, a crosse between wild wolves and domestice dog's oon account of their large size and unusual coloration.^[2] This speculation has found support from naturalist Michel Louis, author of the book La bête du Gévaudan: L'innocence des loups (English: The Beast of Gevaudan: The innocence of wolves). Louis wrote that Jean Chastel was frequently seen with a large red colored mastiff, which he believes sired the beast. He explains that the beast's resistance to bullets may have been due to it wearing the armoured hide of a young boar, thus also accounting for the unusual colour. He dismisses hyenas as culprits, as the beast itself had 42 teeth, while hyenas have 34.


Some cryptozoologists have suggest that the Beast may in fact have been a surviving remnants of a Mesonychild seeing how some witnesses described it as a huge wolf having hooves rather than paws and it was larger than any normal sized wolf will others still believe it was a hyena.
