Strange Werewolf Encounters

  Strange Werewolf Encounters

  Werewolf Sightings🦊🌕🐺

1 - Shapeshifting Werewolf of Texas

Lycanthropy Mrs. Delburt Gregg of Greggton, Texas, told of her encounter with a shapeshifting creature in the 1960 issue of Fate. The other surveyed sightings below are of creature that looked like man-wolves but no one have seen one becoming another. Mrs. Gregg have not seen a man turned into a wolf but she has actually came closer then anyone else in telling a tale that sounds like a chapter from a werewolf novel than a real life experience.
Mrs. Gregg said that one night in 1958 when her husband was on a business trip, she moved her bed close to a screen window hoping to catch some cool breeze from a thunderstorm brewing on the south western horizon. She heard a scratching sound from the window shortly after she fell asleep. In a flash of a lightning, she saw a huge, shaggy, wolf-like creature clawing at the screen and staring at her with baleful, glowing, slitted eyes. She saw its bared white fangs.
The creature fled from the yard into a clump of bushes as she leaped from her bed to grab a flash light. Mrs. Gregg said "I watched for the animal to come out of the bushes, but after a short time, instead of a great shaggy wolf running out, the figure of an extremely tall man suddenly parted the thick foliage and walked hurriedly down the road, disappearing into the darkness."

2 - Wisconsin Werewolf Sighting

Mark Schackelman was driving east of highway 18 near Jefferson, in southeastern Wisconsin on an evening in 1936 when he saw a figure digging in an Indian mound. He saw a hair covered creature that is over six feet tall with both ape-like and dog-like features with pointed ears standing erect. Its hands have shriveled thumb and a forefinger on each and also three fully formed fingers.
Schackelman went back to the sighting the next evening hoping to see the creature again and he did. The creature was making "neo-human" sounds with a three syllable growling. Years later, his son who is a Kenosha newspaper editor, wrote that his "father's first thought was that it must be something satanic." (In southeastern Wisconsin, several decades later, equally enigmatic beast would figure in a host of reports as described below).

3 - Werewolf Creature in Ohio

Between July and October 1972, a number of residents of Ohio allegedly saw a werewolf-like creature. Some people reported encountering a six to eight-foot tall creature that a witness described as "human, with an oversized, wolf-like head, and an elongated nose." Another said it "had huge, hairy feet, fangs, and it ran from side to side, like a caveman in the movies."

4 - Werewolf Attack Reported in New Mexico

Four Gallup, New Mexico, youths allegedly encountered a "werewolf" along the side of a road near Whitewater one day in January 1970. One witness reported "It was about five feet seven, and I was surprised it could go so fast. At first I thought my friends were playing a joke on me, but when I found out they weren't, I was scared! We rolled up the windows real fast and lock the doors of the cars. I started driving faster, about 60, but it was hard because that highway had a lot of sharp turns. Someone finally got a gun out and shot it. I know it got hit and fell down, but there was no blood. I know it couldn't be a person because people cannot move that fast."

5 - Navaho Skin-Walker

Skin-walker is another name for a werewolf that the Navahos of the southwest. In 1936, in Yale Publications in Anthropology, anthropologist William Morgan recounted an interview with a Navaho identified only as Hahago. Hahago said of skin-walker "They go very fast. They can go to Albuquerque in an hour and a half" - a four-hour trip by automobile, according to Morgan.

6 - Red Eyed Werewolves of Pennsylvania

In the fall of 1973 western Pennsylvania played host to dozens of reports of strange apelike creatures, sometimes seen in association with UFOS, said to have (in one witness's words) "fire red eyes that glow in darkness." To be seven to eight feet tall, and gives off a strong unpleasant odor. "Another type of creature" investigator Stan Gordon noted, "was said to be between five and six feet tall. It was described as looking just like an extremely muscular man with a covering of thick dark hair. Again in these reports, the arms were very long and hung down past the knees. This creature appeared to have superior agility exceeding that of a deer. From footprints discovered, the stride of creatures varies between 52 and 57 inches. In these reports there was no indication of odors."

7 - Wisconsin Werewolf Attack

On October 31, 1991 at 8:30pm, a woman drove on Bray Road near Delavan, Wisconsin which is approximately thirty miles south-southeast of Jefferson(site of Schackelman encounter in 1936), felt her right front tire jump off the pavements if it had hit something. The woman stopped her car and looked into the misty darkness and saw a dark hairy creature with a bulked-out chest racing towards her. She went back into her car and tried to speed away when the creature leaped onto her trunk. The creature eventually fell off from the trunk because the trunk was too wet to have a firm grip. Later, the woman returned with a friend and they had a glimpsed of a big form rising from the side of the road.

8 - Wisconsin Werewolf Encounter

Lorianne Endrizzi had a similar encounter as above in the fall of 1989. She was driving on Bray Road, a half a mile away from the above encounter, where she thought it was a person kneeling in a hunched position at the edge of the road. She slowed down and to her surprise, the figure stared at her at no more then six feet across the passenger side of the car. The figure was covered with grayish brown hair, with big fangs and pointed ears. "His face was long and had a snout, like a wolf." She told reporter Scarlett Sankay. The figure's eyes glowed in the darkness and they were a yellowish-gold color. 'The arms were really a kind of strange; jointed like a man or woman would be," she said. "He was holding his hands with his palms upward. The arms were muscular 'like a man who had worked out a little bit." The back legs looked like they were behind him, like a person kneeling." The sighting lasted about 45 seconds and she had no idea what the creature could have been until she saw an illustration at the library of a werewolf.

9 - Werewolf Sighting

Around that same time as above in Elkhorn, near Delevan, a dairy farmer named Scott Bray saw a "strange looking dog" along his pasture on Bray Road. It was bigger and taller than a German shepherd, it had pointed ears and hairy tail, with long, scraggly grayish black hair. It is "built heavy in front - a real strong chest." In the soft soil nearby he found enormous footprints which is four to five inches in diameter

Japanese Myths : The Snow Bride

                             ❅❄💙The Snow Bride💙❄❅

Mosaku and his apprentice Minokichi journeyed to a forest, some short distance from their village.

It was a bitterly cold night when they neared their destination, and saw in front of them a cold sweep of water. They desired to cross this river, but the ferryman had gone away, leaving his boat on the other side of the water, and as the weather was too inclement to admit of swimming across the river they were glad to take shelter in the ferryman's little hut.

Mosaku fell asleep almost immediately he entered this humble but welcome shelter. Minokichi, however, lay awake for a long time listening to the cry of the wind and the hiss of the snow as it was blown against the door.

Minokichi at last fell asleep, to be soon awakened by a shower of snow falling across his face. He found that the door had been blown open, and that standing in the room was a fair woman in dazzlingly white garments. For a moment she stood thus; then she bent over Mosaku, her breath coming forth like white smoke. After bending thus over the old man for a minute or two she turned to Minokichi and hovered over him. He tried to cry out, for the breath of this woman was like a freezing blast of wind. She told him that she had intended to treat him as she had done the old man at his side, but forbore on account of his youth and beauty. Threatening Minokichi with instant death if he dared to mention to anyone what he had seen, she suddenly vanished.

Then Minokichi called out to his beloved master, "Mosaku, Mosaku, wake! Something very terrible has happened!" But there was no reply. He touched the hand of his master in the dark, and found it was like a piece of ice. Mosaku was dead!

During the next winter, while Minokichi was returning home, he chanced to meet a pretty girl by the name of Yuki. She informed him that she was going to Yedo, where she desired to find a situation as a servant. Minokichi was charmed with this maiden, and he went so far as to ask if she were betrothed, and hearing that she was not, he took her to his own home, and in due time married her.

Yuki presented her husband with ten fine and handsome children, fairer of skin than average. When Minokichi's mother died, her last words were in praise of Yuki, and her eulogy was echoed by many of the country folk in the district.

One night, while Yuki was sewing, the light of a paper lamp shining upon her face, Minokichi recalled the extraordinary experience he had had in the ferryman's hut.

"Yuki," said he, "you remind me so much of a beautiful white woman I saw when I was eighteen years old. She killed my master with her ice-cold breath. I am sure she was some strange spirit, and yet tonight she seems to resemble you."

Yuki flung down her sewing. There was a horrible smile on her face as she bent close to her husband and shrieked, "It was I, Yuki-Onna, who came to you then, and silently killed your master! Oh, faithless wretch, you have broken your promise to keep the matter secret, and if it were not for our sleeping children I would kill you now! Remember, if they have aught to complain of at your hands I shall hear, I shall know, and on a night when the snow falls I will kill you!"

Then Yuki-Onna, the Lady of the Snow, changed into a white mist, and, shrieking and shuddering, passed through the smoke-hole, never to return again.

Hone onna love beyond the grave

Hone-Onna by kyriadalyn on deviantART | Japanese mythology, Japanese urban legends, Myths & monsters

                                                                        Hone onna

 Forever loved.

Not all who die turn into vengeful beings of anger or jealousy .

Hone onna retain an undying love that continues long after their flesh has rotted away.

This allows them to continue to be with the person they loved the most, despite having died. These ghosts appear as they did in life—young, beautiful women in their prime.

Only those unclouded by love or with strong religious faith are able to see through their disguise and see their true form: a rotting, fetid, skeletal corpse returned from the grave.

At night, a hone onna rises from the grave and wanders to the house of her former lover.

Her appearance shocks those who believed her to be dead.

This shock quickly turns into a joy that blinds the hone onna’s lover to any clues that something might be wrong. Even the hone onna herself may not know of her condition. She is driven only by love. She exists as a ghost only to continue the love she had in life.

She spends the night and leaves in the morning.

She returns again and again for days, or even weeks, without being noticed.

Each night she drains some of her lover’s life force, and he grows sicker and weaker. Without intervention, he will eventually die, joining his lover forever in death’s embrace.

In most cases, a friend or a servant of her lover will see through the hone onna’s illusion and alert someone to her true identity. Though her human lover may be repulsed by her when the truth is revealed to him, the ghost may not realizes her condition and continue to visit every night.

A home can be protected with prayers and magic charms against entry by ghosts, but they only work as long as the master of the house wills them to. As the hone onna’s body decays further, her enchanting allure only increases. Eventually most men succumb and let her into their homes one last time, sacrificing their own lives to the ghost of the woman they loved.

One of the most well known hone onna is Otsuyu from Botan dōrō, or The Tale of the Peony Lantern. Botan dōrō was introduced to Japan in the 17th century from an old Chinese ghost story.

Over the centuries, it has been adapted into puppet shows, kabuki plays, rakugo, and movies.

Nure Onna

                                Nure onna

Nure Onna means .. wet woman
She is also called  nure yomejo:

Nure Onna live in water on coasts, rivers, and other bodies of water; native to Kyūshū.

She is a dangerous vampiric sea serpents who hunts along the shores and rivers looking for humans to prey.

They are most often found on the shores of the island of Kyūshū, but there are stories of nure onna encounters as far north as Niigata Prefecture and as far east as Fukushima Prefecture.

There are two variations of this yōkai: one without arms, which resembles an enormous sea serpent with a woman’s head, and  one with   arms.

Nure Onna - EP by Teksuo on Apple Music

Aside from this difference, the two act in exactly the same way. Their faces are hideous and betray serpent-like features such as a forked tongue. They have long black hair which sticks to their dripping bodies. Their name comes from the fact that they always appear soaking wet.

While physically much stronger than a human, nure onna prefer not to rely on brute force and use trickery and guile to catch their prey.

They most often appear near the water, on a coast or by a riverbank. Nure onna magically disguise themselves as a distressed woman carrying a bundled up baby. They cry out for help from fishers, sailors, or anybody passing by. When the prey approaches, a nure onna will plead with their victim to hold her baby for just a moment so that she can rest.

                                        Nure onna | Yokai.com

If he agrees and takes the bundle, the “baby” becomes as heavy as a boulder. The victim is unable to move.

The nure onna is then free to attack her helpless victim, feeding by draining his blood with her long, serpentine tongue.

Nure onna frequently appear together and cooperate with ushi oni, as they inhabit the same environments and share the same diet.

“The Vampire” by Henrich August Ossenfelder:

🦇 “The Vampire” by Henrich August Ossenfelder:🦇

    My dear young maiden clingeth
    Unbending, fast and firm
    To all the long-held teaching
    Of a mother ever true;
    As in vampires unmortal
    Folk on the Theyse’s portal
    Heyduck-like do believe.
But my Christine thou dost dally,
    And wilt my loving parry
    Till I myself avenging
    To a vampire’s health a-drinking
    Him toast in pale tockay.

And as softly thou art sleeping
To thee shall I come creeping
And thy life’s blood drain away.
And so shalt thou be trembling
For thus shall I be kissing
And death’s threshold tho’ it be crossing
With fear, in my cold arms.
And last shall I thee question
    Compared to such instruction
    What are a mother’s charms?

Babuska and the Three Kings.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

Babushka lived in a small peasant village in Russia.

She always worked hard cleaning and keeping her house tidy; it was the cleanest house in the whole village. But Babushka’s talents didn’t stop there. Her garden was full of flowers and her cooking was fantastic.

One evening she was busy dusting and cleaning away, she was so engrossed in her work that she didn’t hear her neighbors outside talking about a bright new star in sky. She had heard about the star but thought it was a lot of fuss about a star. “I don’t have the time to look because I’m so behind with my work.” she said. “I must work all night!”

She missed the star as it shone in the sky, and she missed the little line of twinkling lights coming down towards the village at dawn. She didn’t hear the sounds of the pipes and drums playing music, and she missed her neighbors whispering in wonder at what the lights were.

And she finally missed when all the villagers went quiet, and didn’t hear when the sound of footsteps came up the path to her door. But she didn’t miss the loud knocking on her front door moments later! “What is that?” she wondered. When the door opened, Babushka’s mouth dropped in amazement.

There were three kings at her door with one of their servants! “My masters need a place to rest,” said the servant, “and yours is the best house in the village.” “You want to stay here?” asked Babushka. “Yes”, replied the servant. “It would only be until night falls and the star appears again.” Babushka was nervous, and gulped. “Come in, then.” she said.

Tell Me A Story Babushka's Christmas (a Russian Christmas tale)

As soon as they walked across the threshold, the three kings were delighted with all the food they saw: home-baked bread, pies and cakes. Babushka dashed about, serving them and offering the best of her hospitality, asking lots of questions.

“Have you come a long way?” Babushka asked. “A very long way”, sighed the first king, Caspar. “Where are you going?” she continued. “We’re following the new star”, said the second king, Melchior. “But where?”, Babushka wondered.

Do We Know the Three Wise Men's Names in the Bible?

The three kings said they didn’t know, but they believed that the star would lead them to a new-born king, a King of Earth and Heaven. “Why don’t you come with us?” asked the third king, Balthazar. “You could bring him a gift like we do. I bring gold, and my colleagues bring spices and perfumes.”

“Oh”, said Babushka, “I’m not sure that he would welcome me” she said. “And what could I bring for a gift? Toys! I know I could bring a toy. I’ve got a cupboard full of toys.” she said sadly. “My baby son died when he was small.”

Balthazar stopped Babushka as she went to tidy the kitchen up. “This new king could be your king too. Come with us when the star appears tonight”, he said. “I’ll think about it”, sighed Babushka.

As the kings slept, Babushka tidied up as quietly as she could. “What a lot of extra work there was!” she thought, “and this new king, what a funny idea, to go off with the kings to find him.”

Babushka shook herself. There was no time for dreaming, all this washing-up and putting away had to be done. “Anyway,” she thought, “how long would she be away? What would she wear? What about the gift?” She sighed. “There is so much to do. The house will have to be cleaned when they’ve gone. I couldn’t just leave it.”

Suddenly it was night-time again and the star was in the sky. “Are you ready, Babushka?” asked Balthazar. “I’ll come tomorrow,” Babushka called, “I must just tidy here first and find a gift.”

The kings went away sadly. Babushka ran back into her house, keen to get on with her work. Finally, she went to the small cupboard, opened the door and gazed at all the toys. But they were very dusty. They weren’t fit for a baby king. Babushka decided that they would all need to be cleaned, and she polished all of the toys until each one shined.

Then Babushka looked through the window: it was morning! The star had came and gone. She knew the kings would have found somewhere else to rest by now, and that she could easily catch them up, but she felt so tired and soon she fell asleep.

The next thing Babushka knew, she was awake and it was dark outside. She had slept all day! Babushka quickly pulled on her cloak, packed the toys in a basket and ran down the road, the same way the kings had gone before her.

Everywhere she went, Babushka asked “Have you seen the kings?” “Oh yes,” everyone told her, “we saw them. They went that way”, as they pointed further down the road. Babushka followed the trail of the kings, as the villages got bigger and became towns. But Babushka never stopped, and soon she came to a city.

“The palace,” she thought. “That’s where the royal baby would be born.” But when Babushka got to the door, she was disappointed. ”No, there is no royal baby here,” said the palace guard when she asked him.

“What about three kings?” she asked. “Oh yes, they came here, but they didn’t stay long” said the doorman. “They were soon on their journey.” “But where to?” asked Babushka. “Bethlehem”, the doorman replied. “But I can’t imagine why. It’s a very poor place.”

Babushka set off towards Bethlehem, and by evening she had arrived and had been traveling for a long time. She went into the local inn and asked about the kings. “Oh yes,” said the landlord, “the kings were here two days ago. They were very excited, but they didn’t even stay the night.”

“And what about a baby?” Babushka asked. “Yes, there was a baby” said the landlord. “The kings asked about a baby, too.” When he saw the disappointment in Babushka’s eyes, he stopped. “If you’d like to see where the baby was,” he said quickly, “it was across the yard there. I couldn’t offer the couple anything better at the time. My inn was really full, so they had to go in the stable.”

Who were the 3 wise men who visited Jesus?

Babushka followed him across the yard. “Here’s the stable.” he said, and left her. “Babushka?” Someone was calling her from the doorway. He looked kindly at her. She wondered if he knew where the family had gone. She knew now that the baby king was the most important thing in the world to her. “They have gone to Egypt, and safety,” he told her. “And the kings have returned to their countries. But one of them told me about you. I am sorry to tell you, but you are too late.”

Babushka was very sad that she had missed the baby. It is said that Babushka is still looking for Jesus today….

Japan is full of fascinating legends and folklore, yokai, oni, fox spirit's and so much more.

Today's post is about a norther mountain dwelling creature called  Namahage.

While the name namahage is unique to Akita Prefecture, very similar yōkai are known by many different local names in neighboring regions: in Yamagata Prefecture they are known as amahage, in Ishikawa Prefecture they are known as amamehagi, and in Fukui Prefecture they are known as appossha. What they are called just depending on the region the story is being told,

Japanese Monsters: Namahage (なまはげ) 👹 – Linka Learns Things
They are  Oni like yōkai that  live in the mountains along the northern coast of the Sea of Japan.

They look like oni, with bright red or blue skin, wild hair and eyes, large mouths full of sharp teeth, and usually have horns coming from their forehead.

They wear straw leggings and raincoats, and carry large blades.

Once a year, during koshōgatsu the first full moon of the New Year the namahage come down from the mountains to scare villagers.
Festival starring UNESCO-designated, devilish 'Namahage' held in northern Japan - The Mainichi
They go from door to door and brandishing their knives, saying things like, “Any bad kids here?”

They particularly enjoy scaring young children and new brides.

Despite their frightful appearance and behavior, they are actually well-meaning yōkai.

They are sent down from the mountain as messengers of the gods to warn and chastise those who have been lazy or wicked.

The name namahage comes from another taunt the namahage use: “Have your blisters peeled yet?” In the cold winter months, a lazy person who spent all of his or her time in front of the fireplace would get blisters from being too close to the heat for too long.

Namomi is a regional name for these heat blisters, and hagu means to peel.

The combination of those words became namahage.

Today, the namahage play a major part in New Year’s festivities in Akita Prefecture (old Dewa Province).

Villagers dress up in straw raincoats and leggings, wear  oni masks, and wield large knives. They go from house to house and play the part of namahage.

Residents visited by these namahage give presents such as mochi to their “guests,” while the namahage chastise kids and warn them to be good. Newlywed couples
are also harassed by these namahage.

They are expected to give an account of all of the evil deeds they did during their first year together, as well as serve sake and food to the namahage before  sending them off.
